OpenDaylight Open SDN Ecosystem & 4th Release

If you are looking for apps, products and services to use as you transition to SDN, check out the new OpenDaylight Open SDN Ecosystem directory. Both the Packet Design SDN Management and Orchestration Platform and our SDN Traffic Engineering (SDN-TE) application are listed.

In addition, yesterday the organization announced OpenDaylight Beryllium (ODL Be), its fourth open SDN platform release. Executive Director Neela Jacques, who as we mentioned last week will be the keynote speaker at our upcoming Customer Symposium in Paris, said this about ODL Be:

“Dozens of vendors and end users have already chosen to build and deploy solutions leveraging the OpenDaylight platform. ODL Be delivers important performance and scalability improvements and adds significant new network services and abstractions to serve the ever-growing set of use cases being tackled by end-users. ODL Be brings us one step closer to unifying the industry around a single, common platform.”

Our own Distinguished Engineer Hari Ananthakrishnan, who has been reviewing the ODL Be feature list for some time and will write a more in-depth analysis in a future blog post, has this to say about the new release:

“At Packet Design, we welcome the ‘Production-Ready Open SDN Platform’ of the OpenDaylight Beryllium release. The new features, bug fixes and performance improvements added to the MD-SAL, NETCONF and BGPCEP components will address the demands of our customers using Packet Design’s SDN Traffic Engineering (SDN-TE) Application.”

OpenDaylight will provide a technical deep dive on Beryllium during an Open Networking Summit (ONS) webinar on Thursday, March 3 at 1:30 am CST.

OpenDaylight has also released the preliminary results of its second User Survey, showing a growing set of use cases in production environments across the globe. Their full report is coming in the next few weeks. In the meantime, here’s a snapshot of the results:
